Charis Papaevangelou (he/him) is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam, affiliated with the Institute for Information Law (IViR) and the “Public Values in the Algorithmic Society” research project (AlgoSoc). He is also a research fellow at the University of Toulouse as part of the Horizon “Forging Successful AI Applications for European Economy and Society” project. He holds a PhD from the University of Toulouse on the political economy of online platform governance. In his earlier work, he focused on the dependencies between dominant technology firms and news media in the context of the EU’s developing framework for online platform regulation. His current research expands on that earlier work and interrogates how the production and mass deployment of digital technologies consolidate corporate power, deepen environmental and social harms, and reshape our information environment, with a growing interest in the political economy of data centers.
