Biography
Alex is a first-year PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a focus on the geopolitical ramifications of social media and artificial intelligence tools. His most ambitious project is the acclaimed master’s dissertation “Pre-Disenfranchisement: A Theoretical Approach to Understanding the Functionality, Development, and Future of Far-Right Extremism Online” (Swansea University, 2025). In this thesis, Alex conceived and explicated an original theory drawing on evidence from the fields of sociology, political science, critical media studies, critical cultural studies, and American History, to suggest social media has become the modern-day manufacturer of societal discontent. At Wisconsin, Alex hopes to expand this work to understand how artificial intelligence may further alter the relationship between digital media use and societal disenfranchisement, as well as to understand how such developments impact global dissemination of political ideas. He is eager to further develop his research skills at the Public Tech Media Lab, and contribute positively to its scholarly ambitions.
Alex is from Detroit, Michigan, and holds a BA in International Journalism from Michigan State University, alongside an MA in International Journalism from Swansea University.
