Colin Porlezza is Associate Professor of Digital Journalism and Head of the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) at the Università della Svizzera italiana, Switzerland, where he also directs the European Journalism Observatory (EJO). He is Senior Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Journalism at City St George’s, University of London, and Knight News Innovation Fellow at Columbia University. His research broadly examines how AI-driven technologies are reshaping journalism, with particular attention to journalistic innovation and the interrelated dimensions of media governance, ethics, and accountability. He has led several national and international research projects and is currently the Swiss principal investigator of the Horizon research project “Diacomet”, which also investigates governance and accountability frameworks to ensure transparency, fairness, and the responsible use of AI in public communication. In addition, he is a partner in the DIZH-funded project “AI Literacy in Swiss Journalism” and has recently completed a collaboration on the OFCOM-funded project “Governance of AI in Journalism”. He serves as a board member of the Swiss Association of Communication and Media Research (SACM) and as a member of the Federal Media Commission (EMEK).
