Dr. Rana Arafat is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Digital Journalism at the department of journalism in City St George’s, University of London. She holds a PhD degree in journalism and political communication from the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) at Universita della Svizzera italiana, Switzerland. She is the recipient of many research awards, including the 2025 AEJMC Outstanding Early-Career Woman Scholar award and the 2022 ICA Wolfgang Donsbach Outstanding Journal Article of the Year Award. Her research agenda focuses on examining activist/advocacy journalism and journalism innovations with a focus on the adoption of automation and AI technologies in non-western newsrooms. Her research appears in top peer-reviewed journals including Journalism Studies, Journalism Practice, Media, War and Conflict, Studies in Communication Sciences, Convergence, and others.
