Colin Porlezza is Associate Professor of Digital Journalism and Head of the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Switzerland, where he also directs the European Journalism Observatory (EJO). He is also a Senior Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Journalism at City St George’s, University of London, and a Faculty Associate at LUISS University in Rome.

His research focuses on innovation in journalism and on the ways in which emerging technologies are transforming journalistic practices, with particular attention to artificial intelligence and to the interconnected dimensions of media governance, ethics, and accountability. He has led several national and international research projects and is currently Principal Investigator of the Swiss National Science Foundation-funded project “Agents of Transformation and the Future of Journalism: A Comparative Study in Democratic Societies.” The project investigates the diverse actors shaping the present and future of journalism, extending the analysis beyond established institutional hierarchies and conventional organizational boundaries.

Alongside his academic work, Colin Porlezza also serves on the board of the Swiss Association of Communication and Media Research (SACM) and is a member of the Swiss Federal Media Commission (EMEK).
