Dr Bronwyn Jones is a social scientist researching the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism with a focus on public service media and news production. She explores what it means to be responsible and to pursue the public interest with, and amid emerging technologies. Formerly a journalist at the BBC, Bronwyn works to ensure developments in media and communications technology and policy contribute to strengthening public interest journalism. Bronwyn holds two roles; one in academia and one in industry. She leads the AI, Public Media and Democracy theme for the Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) programme at the University of Edinburgh. BRAID seeks to enrich, expand, and connect a mature, sustainable and responsible AI ecosystem by leveraging the power of the arts and humanities. She is also a Research Lead in AI and Journalism at the Responsible Innovation Centre for Public Media Futures (RIC), hosted at BBC R&D. RIC is focused on ensuring that technology and innovation support public media values and goals and work for people and society. Bronwyn has a PhD in Journalism and Technology and was a journalist for 15 years.
