Biography

Nsisong Udosen is a Nigerian-American design strategist, researcher, and poet based in New York City. Her work asks how media and technology can serve the public interest, and she builds tools and methods that help people take part in public life. She is the founder of New Patterns, a civic design studio that pairs research and practice to strengthen participatory democracy.

Nsisong leads product operations at a housing justice nonprofit, where she manages a mobile tool that tenants and frontline partners use to document discrimination and act on their rights. She also leads the organization’s AI policy. Earlier, she spent five years at Google as a design strategist working on mobile product strategy. As a Paragon Policy Fellow, she contributed to the development of Georgia’s generative AI governance standards in collaboration with the Georgia Technology Authority.

Her research examines who holds authority over knowledge as public institutions adopt artificial intelligence. She also runs arts-based workshops with civic organizations that interrogate the creative constraints of AI systems.

Nsisong serves on the board of AIGA New York and holds a Future as a Communication Space Fellowship with Media Lab Bayern and Future Days. She is also a member of the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners’ Alternative and Indigenous Futures Hub and the Democracy & Belonging Forum at UC Berkeley. She earned an M.S. in Strategic Design and Management from Parsons School of Design and a B.A. in Human-Computer Interaction & Business Management from Case Western Reserve University.

At the Public Tech Media Lab, Nsisong will contribute to the Narratives of AI working group, bringing a practitioner’s view from civic AI governance and participatory design.
