Bio
Nina Weingrill is a journalist, civic media practitioner, and PhD candidate in Public Administration and Government at Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil. Her work focuses on local information ecosystems, public interest information infrastructure, crisis response, and the role of journalism and civil society in strengthening democratic life.
She is the co-founder of Énois, a civic media organization created to support journalism training, production, and field-building from favelas and urban peripheries in Brazil, and co-founder of AJOR, the Brazilian Digital Journalism Association. Her current doctoral research develops the concept of information reparation, examining how communities rebuild information capacity when institutional systems are insufficient.
As a Media Fellow at the Public Tech Media Lab, Nina is interested in how public interest technologies, journalism, and community-rooted information systems can help reduce information inequality, support public accountability, and strengthen democratic responses to crisis. She is also a Knight-Wallace Fellow and an ICFJ Fellow.
