Bio
Roger Cuartielles is a researcher in the Department of Communication at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain), where he is a member of the Political Communication, Journalism and Democracy Research Group (POLCOM-GRP). His research examines how artificial intelligence is reshaping journalism, with a particular focus on fact-checking, information verification, media accountability, media literacy, and public trust. He has contributed in several competitive European and Spanish research projects and has been a visiting researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Kristiania University of Applied Sciences, and Sapienza University of Rome. Beyond research, he is actively engaged in knowledge transfer through university teaching, media literacy initiatives, and collaborations with journalists, fact-checking organisations, educators, and public institutions, including as a trainer and project team member of Learn to Check, a media literacy initiative within IBERIFIER/EDMO. As a member of the Public Tech Media Lab, he is interested in contributing to interdisciplinary research on AI, open-source investigations, information integrity, and public interest technologies, while collaborating on projects that strengthen the relationship between journalism, technology, and democracy.
