Life has taken me everywhere, from serving aboard aircraft carriers in the US Navy, to pressing camera lenses against the cage at some of the UFC’s biggest events, to creating content for the Chicago Police Department. My storytelling career began when I was a reporter at a small newspaper in Chicago that catered to the bilingual Spanish-speaking community, where I covered neighborhood events and sports. After a few years in journalism, I decided to pursue a MS in Journalism at Northwestern University, where I honed my video storytelling skills. For almost a decade, I’ve been part of the social media efforts for various organizations, including the Buffett Institute of Global Affairs at Northwestern University, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Chicago Police Department.
Currently, I’m pursuing an MS in Information with a focus on Human Factors in Cybersecurity at UW. As someone who’s spent most of my adult life adjacent to the manosphere, I’ve been interested in how content creators in that space have been successfully able to conduct mis/disinformation campaigns that have led to the election of Donald Trump and the discreditation of expertise in general. I am looking forward to contributing my anecdotal experiences to the academic community in helping to combat the spread of misinformation.
